Hello and welcome to episode 128 of The Ask Sri Vishwanath Show. Today is part 3 of maya illusion and how we can use tweaks to get us through

I encourage you to watch episodes 126 and 127 first so you can really get the full benefit from this episode. We saw the differences between real and unreal and we shared some great stories. We learned that when we hear, speak, touch or see something twice it will appear as real. I highly encourage you to watch those episodes. They are really powerful.

Just to remind you. Ram Krishna says that maya is what makes the real appear un-real and the un-real appear real. It makes the consciousness appear as un-real and all the emotions as real.

Dream and wake

We also learned about the states: dream, wake and the state of the consciousness. When you dream, the dream appears real but when you wake you imagine it to be un-real because the waking state is a higher form. Most people finish at this state because they can’t get to the next stage because they are either unaware of it or they are deluded by maya. There is another stage, the stage of consciousness. This is a meditative state that you can fall back on in times of need. Here you will notice the difference between thinking and thoughts.

In the last episode I told you about a wonderful exercise where you divide a note pad in to two sides. On one side you write “I am doing” and on the other “This is done through me”. The doer is the ignorant state and the done through state is the higher state. As you write it out you’ll be able to see the difference between the body, mind and intellect and the conscious state.

Remember that thoughts are good, they help us move towards god. It is thinking that is maya. We learned that the moment you think of fear, hatred, jealousy or revenge you must cut that way of thinking down. This will prevent you from believing that this is real. You will avoid being deluded by maya.

Krishna says “reposing all works to Brahman he operates without attachment. He is not stained by work as lotus is not by water. The yogi giving up the fruits of work wins freedom while the non-yogin attached to the fruits is bound.

We spoke about Ram Krishna asking God to hold his hand and take his good with his bad. He would give all of his bad points to goddess Kali and once he had given them he wouldn’t ever think about them again. If you hand over pain to your consciousness your consciousness will take care of it no matter what. This can solve all of your problems.

Water the roots

Vivekananda says he who pours water at the root of the tree, does he not water the whole tree? All social, political and spiritual issues are corrected when you pour water on the consciousness. If you correct this then everything else will fall into place. If you can destroy thinking then you are equal to the radiance of the sun. That’s all you need to do. If you do that then you are even greater than someone who donates billions to charity.

Krishna says “Surrendering all works to me knowing me Krishna to be of all. With a concentrated mind fix your mind on me. Fixing your mind on me you will overcome all obstacles due to my divine grace but if egoistically you persist  you will perish.”  God’s grace can help you overcome any obstacle. So give all of your problems to your consciousness. It works so you should take advantage of it!

Surrender

I want to share a story told by Ram Krishna. Shiva and Parvati were living in their abode and at that point someone one earth was being abused and being treated badly. That person surrendered everything to Shiva and he called on him to help him.
Shiva told Parvati that he would be back soon and she asked him where he was going. He told her a devotee was having problems and he was going to go help him. He walked a few steps and then he came back. Parvati asked him what happened and he replied that the devotee decided to take care of it himself so he returned. He was about to solve the devotee’s problems but when the devotee decided that he did not need Shiva he turned back.

This is important. When you say “I will fix this” or “I can solve this” you are preventing God from coming to help you. You will be stuck in the realm of time, space and circumstance and your gunas will be very active. We need to destroy this way of thinking through God’s grace by allowing him to help us. When you are in trouble surrender to God and he will take care of you. Don’t let your ego get in the way of asking for help.

Vivekananda says that intelligence is God’s grace so use this gift of intelligence that God has given you to ask for help when you need it. Just take that leap of faith and hand your troubles over. You have nothing to lose. You don’t have to worry about the mechanics of it and how it works. Just do it.

When you have a problem either say it out loud or write it in your journal. Say or write “God I am handing this problem over to you. I cannot and will not do anything about this. I need your help.” The moment you do that you will be blessed with God’s grace and things will automatically start to work out for you. They will auto correct.

They will only auto correct if you surrender. If you try and solve things on your own you will get stuck up in your problems. It will be a vicious circle of hatred and problems. Just destroy thinking, give your problems to God and then forget about them. Don’t interfere. Thinking about them will only make them appear real and block you from achieving God’s grace.

Around the world

I want to leave you with this story. Shiva had two sons, Ganesha and Murugan. Shiva had only one piece of fruit that both wanted to eat. The fruit could not be divided so they decided to have a competition and the winner would get the fruit. Both would go around the world and the one back first would be the winner.

Every god has a mascot. Murugan’s was a peacock so he flew away on its back. Ganesha’s was a rat so he knew he had to think of something clever if he was going to win. He meditated and he then realised that Shiva and Parvati represent the manifest and the un-manifest which is the entire cosmos. So if he went around them once technically he would have circled the world.

So he did this and went to Shiva. At first he said no but when Ganesha explained it to him he had to admit that he was  right. Technically he had circled the world so he had won the fruit.

He had done in thirty seconds what would have taken others an age. You can do the same by destroying thinking and handing over pain to your consciousness. Don’t spend and age trying to solve something yourself when God can take care of it in seconds.

I hope I answered your question. Remember you keep asking questions and I’ll keep answering them.
